The Middleburgh Telephone Company (Midtel) has successfully completed the installation of free public Wi-Fi throughout the Village of Middleburgh’s Business District – Main Street, Railroad Avenue, Chestnut Lane, and Wells Avenue – stretching from the Middleburgh High School to the Art Park in Badgley Park.
Midtel officials will fine-tune the Wi-Fi network this coming week, expecting a full launch by Friday night’s Miracle on Main Street. The network is named Middleburgh Free Wi-Fi, and the password is breadbasket (all lowercase). Earlier this year, Midtel received a $65,000 award for this project, which includes five years of paid internet service.
CDBG funds used for this project were sought by the Schoharie Economic Enterprise Corporation (SEEC) and Schoharie County officials, with the Administrator’s Office providing oversight for the grant/award administration. Village Mayor Timothy Knight was included as part of the bid evaluation process.
